Our Brain Injury Attorney Services
A traumatic brain injury can happen in the blink of an eye as a result of motor vehicle accidents, spontaneous fall events, or even sports injuries. Unfortunately, the consequences of this type of injury can last for a lifetime, and sometimes even result in death. Brain injury victims in the United States have the right to take legal action against the person who caused their injuries. If you have sustained a traumatic brain injury because of another person’s negligent behavior, it’s imperative that you work with an attorney who can help you recover the compensation that you deserve. Traumatic brain injuries typically occur in the event of a violent blow or sudden jolt to the head. The brain is forced to collide with the skull, which then leads to brain tissue death, nerve fiber damage, bleeding, and bruising. TBIs can also occur when the skull is penetrated by a foreign object such as a bullet. The damage that occurs will depend on what zone of the brain was affected by the blow or jolt.
The recovery process is unique for every traumatic brain injury victim. Most improvement tends to happen within the first six months following the injury. Between six months and two years after the injury, you may continue to improve, but at a much slower rate. The majority of TBI victims will not see much improvement in their condition after the two-year period has passed.
Unfortunately, some traumatic brain injury victims will not see any improvement at all. If the injury has affected a large portion of the brain, the victim may not be able to recover.
Brain damage is irreversible, so once the brain tissue is damaged, there is no treatment that can heal it. Each area of the brain controls different things within our body, which means some brain injuries will be more serious than others. For example, a brain injury that affects the brain stem may make it impossible for the victim to breathe on their own.
The brain will often swell when it is injured, which causes it to press against the skull. As the pressure inside the skull increases, the brain suffers more damage. If a doctor does not take immediate action to try to relieve some of the swelling, the victim may become completely brain dead.
Every brain injury should be taken seriously, but there are some types that are far more serious than others. Two common brain injuries are concussions and contusions, but which is worse? A concussion occurs when the brain is suddenly pressed against the skull due to a blow or jolt to the head. Concussions affect the entire brain or a large portion of the brain. A contusion, however, is similar to bruising on the skin and only affects a small area of the brain. Complications may arise if the blood in your brain does not clot properly to stop the bleeding that occurred as a result of the bruising.
It’s difficult to say which is more serious because both concussions and contusions can be life-threatening depending on the area of the brain affected. In general, concussions are more serious because they affect a larger area of the brain. But, it’s important to seek medical attention if you believe you have suffered from either one of these serious injuries.
If you’ve tuned into the news at all over the last few years, you may have heard about the dangers of concussions. What exactly happens when you sustain a concussion? Concussions occur when you sustain a sudden blow to the head that causes the brain to press against the inside of the skull. Typically, the brain tissue is bruised by this impact. But, different parts of the brain may not travel at the same speed. As a result, the brain’s tissue could stretch out and even tear during the impact.
There are also secondary injuries that occur after a concussion. For example, the impact could also affect the levels of ions and chemicals in the brain. If these levels are abnormal, the nerve cells will not be able to function and the victim may lose consciousness.
